We got to go to Idlewilde and SoakZone in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. As far as the allergies go, it was good news, bad news, wonderful news.

Der Dutchman fries in canola oil
This its either something new and exciting, or it’s got soybean oil in it and i just forgot to note that from our last visit. Waiting to hear from the waitress as to which it is. WhoHoo. It is actually 100% canola oil. So the french fries should have been ok, except that the fries … Read more
Chick-fil-A
I’ve never bothered with a post for Chick-fil-A. They fry their food in peanut oil, and our kids are anaphylactic to peanuts, so it seemed kind of pointless. Tragically, it appears that they also hold the same opinion about peanut oil that many restaurants hold about soybean oil, namely that the presence of soybean oil doesn’t … Read more
Red Robin
Thanks to Shannon for this information about Red Robin Restaurants and the great tip about Chipotle (mostly) dumping soy: I had a good experience at Red Robin in Mesa tonight. Their website is awesome! They have a tool where you enter in your allergies and it gives you which items are safe! Then at the … Read more
Finally, Chipotle seems to be (mostly) soy-free
Special thanks to Kim and Shannon, who shared the good news with me. Shannon says: It seems they have changed that chart within the past month or so. I was looking up restaurants when planning our trip to Phoenix and saw the disclaimer about soy oil. I write the company and asked exactly which items had … Read more
Boston Market
It looks like some of the standard items are soy free at Boston Market: Rotisserie Chicken, Roasted Turkey Breast, Fresh Steamed Vegetables, Rice Pilaf, Mac and Cheese and Creamed Spinach (somewhat surprisingly). I’m somewhat concerned that Boston Market takes the “Soybean Oil isn’t Soy” route, as they claim that their Broccoli with Garlic Butter Sauce is soy-free, as I would have … Read more
Bob Evans seasons their grill with soybean oil
We just learned that Bob Evans seasons their grills every morning with soybean oil. They will clean off a spot on the grill before cooking your food on it, but obviously, depending on your sensitivity level, this could be a big problem.
Cheesecake Factory
Thanks to Tabitha for this information on Cheesecake Factory: I have found that the Cheesecake Factory is EXTREMELY allergy friendly, and there were actually many options. I have eaten there 3 times recently (and at different locations) and I haven’t been “soyed” once. They will also let you know if there is soybean oil in … Read more
Carrabba’s ice cream sundae
We came to Carrabba’s for our son’s birthday. The very nice waitress came out with an ice cream sundae for him. It was an extremely nice gesture, but it didn’t really go as the waitress had planned. Instead of being excited, we all had worried looks as we all assumed that our son wouldn’t be … Read more
Schmidt’s Restaurant and Banquet Haus
Fortunately all of Schmit’s sausage is soy free, so our kids can eat at Schmit’s buffet and they definitely won’t go hungry. The sauerkraut and mashed potatoes are also soy free. Aside from that, pretty much everything else on the buffet or in the restaurant has soy in it, including the macaroni and cheese, german potato … Read more
